Hey Matt i just applied to Big Red for a staff position but have been an IA for two years. I want to get more experience and be a better adjuster. Do I have to give up my IA license to be a staff adjuster and do you think they will let me run CAT if I get called to run a deployment?

I bought and sold cars out of dealer auctions for years part time while working my regular job, I loved it Am thinking today to get back into it again at 71 Is an addicting thing to do and a lot of fun Many times I've gone through and checked out 300 cars in one day

Great video. I started my career last June in the field. And being a slow year I was only running claims for one IA firm because I took a course with them. But I’ll say the most important thing you need to get started is support. I needed the support of my wife, both emotional, and financial for us to have me make this change. It wasn’t an easy transition, and then I needed the support of the IA firm and a mentor for knowledge. I was a deer in the headlights. I watched a lot of your videos and have commented on them throughout the year. But without support, you can only go so far. And in 2024, more claims have come my way with all the weather we’ve had in Texas and firms I’ve contacted in the past are now reaching out to me to run claims because everyone is getting behind on claims. If you’re just getting started then you have to spend all this time learning and collecting certifications. And get on a bunch of rosters. The work will come. Be honest and don’t rush your claims. You will make mistakes. It’s all good.

What is the best way for restoration vendors to build relationships with field adjusters? I have been in restoration for 10 years. I have a lot of great contacts, but the guys who really kill it have great adjuster relationships feeding them work. I have worked with several adjusters when I was in Operations at Servpro, but I could never build an ongoing relationship. My company is National and we are on most TPAs. Contractor Connection, Alacrity, etc. I’m interested in getting advice from an actual adjuster. I’m on the sales side now so I don’t have the exposure to adjusters like I used to in operations. I’d love to get your opinion. Thanks

I recently passed my Adjuster license exam for the state of Georgia last Thursday. I just paid for my license application. I want to be and IA and be remote and not travel as much or at all. I will be taking the agent exam this month also. I wanted to know how can I leverage both licenses.

I would say writing the line items correctly for the company you're writing them for and learning what they want....started for 6 months...torn my Achilles in two, four months later i feel like im starting over learning fresh, and im not near large towns so not to many claims.

Diversification is best, however when you work as an IA for lets say big red then your experience is with only big red and all the firms only want to deploy you for is you guessed it big red. Sometimes it can be very difficult and take a long time to establish yourself with other carriers or even smaller firms running dailies. If you have never done dailies then the only opportunity you will likely have to get into the daily market is when their dedicated daily adjusters leave for a cat deployment. This recent market shift was a rough one I watched the vast majority of large firms rosters get absorbed into staff positions, upper management included. Last year was a good opportunity for the carriers to do this since we had no hurricanes to create the extra work, I feel like many new staff employees will jump ship when things get hot and heavy if several storms hit back to back. It will no doubt be entertaining, so get your popcorn.

Yeah, I’ve thought about the apps that carriers can use to close claims without IA. But people often struggle with following instructions and may not take the best photo for the AI to work right. I saw a sketch from a company that does AI photo sketching and it was off by almost half a foot (short). So AI is great and can speed up the process but it will still an IA to verify and provide good service.

After an insured makes a claim the insurance company almost always non renews the policy. In some cases they keep the insured but having been an agent I can confidently say that that info is not accurate. Rough guess more than half the cat claims that get filed either come with a massive increase on renewal and the insured leaves on their own or they non renew the policy. Either way the insurance company doesn't care about the customer at all, most will pay the claim with no complaint but others will fight the claim tooth and nail (farmers) but almost all of them cancel the policy if thats a option, non renews or increases the premium through the roof forcing the insured to seek another carrier. On that note all carriers want you to treat the client with the utmost respect even if you're denying a claim or they plan on non renewing the insured.
